The Finish Line

From 2004 until 2008, Brian captained his team for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer 60KM walk. 680 News interviewed him during the 2006 walk and the picture here shows him and his wife with former Mayor David Miller after crossing the finish line that same year.

Remarkably he participated in this event a mere 4 1/2 months after his open heart surgery. Brian spoke about how he leveraged this terrific charity walk to recover from his triple by pass. He shared this at the closing ceremonies. The grand total of money raised by him and his teammates over the five-year period was in excess of $175,000.

Heart and Stroke 7 Summits

In February 2009, Brian took part in the Heart and Stroke 7 Summits event where the challenge was to climb the seven tallest office towers in downtown Toronto. The goal of this event was to raise $1.5 million for Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s). Brian, who spoke at the opening ceremonies, completed five out of the seven summits and raised an impressive $2,840 dollars. While it was his legs that failed him at the top of the fifth building, Brian’s heart was fine and he ended up climb in a total of 302 floors, which equals 6067 steps, in just under four hours. This would be the equivalent of doing the CN tower climb 3 1/2 times in just one morning!

Brian and another survivor, Sheryl Gill, rode 50KM’s and 75KM’s respectively, up-and-down the Don Valley Parkway. He was also chosen to speak at the closing ceremonies at the Corporate VIP Village. The picture show here is with his fellow survivor teammate Sherly.
